The Liberty Seminars 2009: Impressions by Alumni
07 Oct 2009

The Liberty Seminars were a great opportunity in so many ways - from enjoying the wonderful scenery of the Slovenian Alps to challenging ourselves with new ideas which expanded our horizons and will help us to grow as people as well. Not only were we able to learn about liberty by listening to some very distinguished lecturers, we were also sharing our own experiences with others, who come from different cultural and personal backgrounds, which offered us a unique way to look at the world.

I really had a great time at the 2009 Freedom and Transition Seminar. I learned a lot at the lectures by the prominent economists from all over the world. Additionally, I found the debates and discussions with my colleagues extremely useful. I met a lot of great people and I think I made some lifetime friendships! There was a lot of exchange of knowledge, as the participants were from different parts of the world. I also enjoyed the beauties of Lake Bohinj and excursions to Bled and waterfall Savica. What is also important is that I found out more about the degree of freedom in other countries. That is very important for me because I am very passionate about free-market economics and I want to continue my education in that field.

Liberty Seminars surpassed all my expectations! These seminars were like an injection of a new spirit for me. Meeting interesting and intelligent people, new knowledge, new questions… I can't think of a better place with such unforgettable and breathtaking scenery where people could speak about Freedom and Transition. The atmosphere of this seminar will stay in my memory forever! I am very grateful to the organizers for giving us a chance to join Bohinj paradise! :)

The Liberty Seminar was a great opportunity to gain insights into the transition process in former socialist countries. Due to an excellent collection of lecturers and the professional organization of the seminar, participants could learn and discuss various aspects of transition in such a short time. Another positive aspect of attending the seminar was the very international variety of participants.

I had a great time meeting peers from other European countries and pondering different economic, political and philosophical issues and challenges we have all come across during the transition process in our home countries. The lecturers provided us with interesting materials and points of views. What I learned was that the countries are bound by a common past, while heading towards a brighter future that is so different and so similar at the same time. All this, together with the magic of the Slovenian Alps and the nice young people, made the seminar my best experience of the summer. :)

I am sincerely grateful to be given the opportunity to attend the Liberty Camp. Not only did I find answers to many socio-political as well as economic questions, Liberty Camp also provided a deeper insight into the importance of personal and economic freedom, on which social development as well as a successful and healthy economy is based on. The seminars also provided an amazing opportunity to meet many interesting participants and lecturers/professors, among whom I would especially like to mention Rado Pezdir, Dr. Ljubo Sirc, Dr. Miroslav Prokopijević and Dr. Svetozar Pejović. Their expertise and personal input added a special contribution to the seminar that other events in the region lack. Special thanks and acknowledgment are due to the organizers and attending professors, but also to other participants. I am looking forward to working with them in the future.

People say that the best things happen unexpectedly. When I applied for the liberty seminar in Slovenia, I didn't expect to have such a great time with a bunch of people from the entire region. But I did. I also didn't expect to be placed in an environment that is so peaceful and so stimulating. But I was. If you want to share your views with people from all of Europe and want to hear what they have to say, the Liberty Seminars are where you want to be!

Liberty Seminars presented me with completely new inspiring ideas—libertarian ideas, which have surely changed my view of political and economic freedom. Although the seminar is over, it has definitely affected my everyday live in many ways. Now, I am more concerned about developments in my own country, while I also see these matters from a different angle.

Veronika Korčeková, Slovakia, participant of the 2009 Liberty Camp Seminar

The Liberty Seminars were amazing and among the most enriching and challenging intellectual experiences I've ever had. I feel lucky to have been able to meet so many inspiring and knowledgeable people, while learning so much in such a short time.

This year was my second time to attend the Liberty Camp at Bohinj. I was amazed by other participants (they are true libertarians!), organization, beautiful Lake Bohinj and after all with vast knowledge that I acquired during the seminar. I am convinced that this is a wonderful project and I strongly recommend it to all of you who would like to explore and discuss different ideas on the role of individuals in a society. Join us next year at the Liberty Seminars!

Andjelija Babić, Montenegro, participant of both the 2008 Liberty Camp and 2009 Liberty Camp Seminars
